• My intuition has implemented a policy of “institutional neutrality” with a requirement to remain neutral on the political controversies of the day. This specifically prohibits promoting and discussing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) by individuals acting in a capacity where they represent my institution, or promoting any of this on a university website. Taking a stance on social concepts, viewpoints, or actions, are also prohibited when representing my institution. The same policy also supports the free speech and academic freedom of faculty, as long as they represent their views as their own and not as representing the views of the institution.
  • My body of work on my faculty website, my actions on other websites, in addition to my graduate and undergraduate instruction, do not represent the views, opinion, or policies of my institution. They do, however, adhere to institutional system policies when my own values and the rules of my institution differ (e.g. with regard to the consideration of racial background in the admissions process which is a nation-wide requirement).
  • Though I do not speak on behalf of my institution, I do represent the field of psychology and its empirical bases and conclusions. This includes supporting the values of psychology as a field which are not currently shared by my institution. I support the values of the field of psychology within my clinical work, graduate training, and undergraduate teaching, in exercise of my academic freedom.
